Fall is close to being one of my favorite seasons of the year simply because of the gorgeous majesty of the trees colors! Isn’t it just amazing how the leaves can change their summer green color to hues such as yellow, orange, fiery red and pink? My curiosity was peeked as to how this change occurs, so I did some research.
As cooler temperatures arrive, less sunlight is available. The leaves form a cork-like substance between them and the stem, allowing less water to access the leaf. This combination slows the process of photosynthesis and allows other pigments come to the surface–pigments such as red, yellow, purple, etc.
